Richmond police arrested two teens Monday morning by after two of Virginia Commonwealth University students were robbed at gunpoint near the school's Monroe Park campus.
The robbery occurred at 3:30 a.m. at the Rite Aid drugstore at 520 West Broad Street, according to police. The students were in the store's parking lot when they were confronted by two black males who asked to use a cell phone.
When one of the victims agreed, one of the suspects displayed a handgun and took the female victim's purple handbag, and both suspects ran toward Jackson Ward, police said.
A number of police officers were in the area, and within minutes, two suspects were taken into custody. Police said both were positively identified by the victims, and the purple bag and most of its contents were recovered, as was a BB pistol.
The suspects, both juveniles, were held on robbery charges. Their identities were withheld because of their ages.
