Could be delays in GRTC service

DOWNTOWN -- The GRTC Transit System announces that it will run a regular schedule on Monday, December 27, 2010.  Due to expected road conditions, riders may experience some delays in service.

Due to the inclement weather, the Specialized Transportation division will operate reduced service by providing dialysis and medical trips only.  All other scheduled trips for Monday December 27th will be canceled.  Please call 782-2273 for additional information.

Updates will be issued as conditions warrant. Riders who have additional questions may contact the GRTC Customer Service at 804-358-4782.

Snow aftermath in Church Hill

Canal Club show postponed

DOWNTOWN -- The Glass Clovers, Pent Up House, Results May Very and The Fountain show scheduled for tonight at The Canal Club is being postponed until Thursday, December 30. 2010.

Christmas postponed due to snow

DOWNTOWN -- The Downtown YMCA has postponed Christmas for 300 deserving children! The Christmas Connections family party and gift distribution scheduled at the Downtown YMCA for tonight (Thursday, December 16) at 7:00 is rescheduled for Tuesday, December 21 at 7:00 p.m.

Community meeting canceled

DOWNTOWN -- Due to inclement weather (snow), The Honorable Cynthia I. Newbille, Councilmember, Richmond City Council East End 7th District, has canceled the Greater Fulton Community Development Outreach Update Meeting that was scheduled for Thursday, Decemeber 16th from 6:30 until 8:30pm in Richmond’s East End 7th District.

The meeting will be rescheduled in January 2011. This community outreach meeting was to provide updated information regarding Fulton redevelopment initiatives, Hope 6 Project, and LISC Initiatives.

Leaf collection temporarily suspended in preparation for snow removal

The city is temporarily suspending vacuum leaf collection due to weather advisories indicating the city may experience an accumulation of snow.  The same equipment is used for leaf collection and snow removal.  Crews are in the process of putting spreaders and snow plows on the machinery in preparation for the inclement weather. 

The city will update residents and the media when vacuum leaf collection will resume.

Cold Weather Shelter open

DOWNTOWN -- The city’s Cold Weather Overflow Shelter will open December 13, as overnight temperatures are forecasted to remain at or below 35 degrees. The Cold Weather Overflow Shelter is located at Sixth Mount Zion Baptist Church, 14 West Duval Street. The Cold Weather Overflow Shelter will open Monday at 7 p.m. and close Tuesday at 6 a.m. Food will not be provided and pets are not allowed.

Residents in need of overnight shelter are asked to report to Commonwealth Catholic Charities Central Intake by 5 p.m. today for a comprehensive intake and referral to the appropriate shelter. Commonwealth Catholic Charities Central Intake is located at the Freedom House Conrad Center, 1400 Oliver Hill Way, next to Richmond Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court and Richmond City Jail.
